The four grammatical states in Arabic:

  • Nominative – this is when a word is in the default, or unaffected by another word, in a phrase or sentence.
  • Genitive – this is when a word is not in the default, and is affected by another word, in a phrase or sentence.
  • Accusative – this is when a word is not in the default, and is affected by another word, in a phrase or sentence.
  • Jussive – this is when a word is not in the default, and is affected by another word, in a phrase or sentence.
