Key stage 4 Arabic aims to enable students to develop their ability to communicate confidently developing language-learning skills that will prepare them for further language study. Also, it provides awareness and understanding of the culture and identity of the countries and communities where the language is spoken.

This may be adapted depending on the number of lessons per week, the duration of each lesson and how many years the student is taking the lessons. There may occasionally be some overlap of topics depending on when a student starts lessons and the material or resource being used at any given time. There are also topics within topics time and scope permitting.

Years 10 and 11:

    Topics: Family and friends, what makes a good friend, relationships, physical descriptions, personality, role models, talking about childhood. Grammar: Present and past tense regular verbs. Personal, attached and hidden pronouns. Adjectives.

    Topics: Sport, music, reading, film and television
    Grammar: Present and Past Tense continued. Effects of the Preposition.

    Topics: Festivals and celebrations, food, clothing, daily life
    Grammar: Present and Past Tense continued. Definite and indefinite articles.

    Topics: Where you live, transport, places in town, weather, ideal towns, taking action to improve where you live
    Grammar: Present and Past Tense continued. Subject and Predicate.
  • 5
    Topics: Countries, past, future and ideal holidays, hotels and restaurants
    Grammar: Present and Past Tense continued. The annexation of nouns.
  • 6
    Topics: Describing your school, subjects, comparing between countries, school rules, making the most of education. Grammar: The imperative.
  • 7
    Topics: Jobs, career paths, ambitions, using languages in a career, interviews
    Grammar: Agreement of demonstration and relative pronouns.

    Topics: The planet, protecting the environment, concerns, volunteering, global ethics
    Grammar: Comparatives and superlatives, regular and irregular verbs, other complex structures
